Setting up roaming agreements has been a problem for operators ever since GSM started. Roaming partnerships are bilateral agreements controlled by the IREG group of the GSM Association. The IREG documents lay down practices and tests that allow two operators to become roaming partners. Smaller networks and new operators find the efforts, time and expenses involved in the exercise a huge challenge. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a new mobile operator could “piggyback” on the roaming relationships already forged by an established operator?
Telemune Roaming Enabler (TRE) enables a mobile operator to provide full fledged roaming services to its subscribers and inbound roaming services to/from the other mobile networks without having roaming bilateral agreements between them. System leverages the roaming agreements of partner operator and gives them similar coverage. System also provides mechanisms for billing settlements. This system is also useful for an operator who has limited roaming agreements and wants to leverage roaming agreements of an established bigger operator only for selective networks. |
